3 Preventative Steps To Take To Keep Your Commercial Plumbing In Good Shape
When you own a commercial building, you are responsible for the upkeep of the entire building. One of the areas that you need to make sure you take care of is the plumbing. Since the plumbing is hidden behind walls and under cabinets, it is easy to forget about it. However, there are three preventative steps you should make sure you are taking to keep the plumbing in your building in good shape so you are not looking at any major plumbing repair bills or replacement.
#1 Test The Pressure
Test the pressure in all of the faucets in your building. When you test the pressure, keep an eye out for areas of low pressure. If you find that some areas of the building have low pressure, you need to do some further troubleshooting. Low pressure is often causes by leaks somewhere within your system. Low pressure can also be caused by sediment building up in your pipes. If you have an area with low pressure in your building, check all the pipes that feed into that part of your building for leaks and build ups.
#2 Clean The Drainage Pipes
The drainage pipes can easily get clogged up with lint, hair, food products and other little things that make their way down the drains in your commercial building. To prevent any of your drains from getting backed up, you need to make sure that you keep the drains clean in the first place. At least once a year, treat all of your drains in your commercial building. You can use a natural drain cleaner, such as hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, or you can use a commercial drain cleaner. Cleaning the drains in your building at least once a year will help break up the build-up that can accumulate over time in your pipes and can help you keep everything flowing properly.
#3 Test The Toilets
It can be easy for a faulty toilet to go undetected in a large space where everyone assumes someone else will report the problem. Have all of your toilets inspected and checked at least twice a year to ensure that the flushing mechanisms are working properly. This is a good time to replace any parts on your toilets that have broken down or are getting old. This is also a good way to spot issues that may be causing you to waste water within your building.
Keep the pipes in your commercial plumbing running smoothly by checking the water pressure, cleaning the pipes and testing all the toilets a couple of times a year.
